Name

Kuja's name has some very interesting connections. For one, it is the name of a Hindu God, and it essentially translates to son of the earth. What's interesting about this is the fact that Terra, Kuja's homeland, is the Latin word for earth. Perhaps this is coincidental, but Squaresoft tends to choose their names carefully. The obvious connection here is that Kuja is made for the purpose of "saving" Terra, and for all intesive purposes, he is the son of Terra. Another interesting note is that the name Brahne is also of Hindu origin, and the name fits her quite well (but you can go to a Brahne site and learn more about that).

Another interesting connection is that Kuja is also known in Hinduism as the equivalent of Mars, the Red Planet. This is fitting considering the role of red versus blue planets in FFIX. Also, Mars, in Roman mythology, is the god of war. Kuja himself tends to bring on war and destruction, so it is not hard to see the connection between the two.

Though these parallels may seem a tad far-fetched, I think that they are intended. There is a method to the madness of naming characters. What's in a name? Plenty!
