The vindi on the Yason's bodies allow the Yason to draw chi from the Tree of Light. However, when the eight human 'heroes' stole ans sealed the Light of Salvation, the dying Tree of Light beganto work in the reverse, drawing chi from the Yason in order to survive. Rheuma is the condition where, after too much Chi has been drawn from the Yason's body, they petrify (turn to stone), effectively ending their life.
